ASH DOODKORTE & ALEX CANION
Saturday
Theory & Vibe: The Chemistry of a Rhythm Section
What happens when a highly analytical drummer joins forces with a bassist who plays purely on instinct, feel, and raw vibe? You get a rhythm section that is both mechanical and deeply organic.
In this master class, Ashley and Alex pull back the curtain on how their contrasting styles create a unified, crushing live sound. While Ashley breaks down the intellectual side of heavy music – deconstructing odd time signatures and utilizing deliberate rhythmic motifs, Alex shares his intrinsic, feel-based approach to the bass. Built on a foundation of relentless metal touring and thousands of hours on the contemporary cover circuit.
Having shared the stage for hundreds of cover gigs and locked in together across several major tribute acts (including Korn, Metallica, and Primus), Ashley and Alex will show you exactly how that deep camaraderie translates to the stage. Through live breakdowns of heavy originals and a taster of legendary covers, you’ll learn how to blend calculation with chaos to form an unbreakable musical bond.

MATT GARSTKA
Sunday
There are 3 primary ways to manipulate time and create different feeling sensations. We will start with odd groupings in 4/4 as this tend to be the dominant way of embellishing time. Odd meters would be next with a focus on how these are typically broken up as that gives us insight into what configurations tend to be most musical. Lastly from these 3 would be subdivisions exploring the less common subdivisions like quintuplets and septuplets. Maybe even how to do things like imply a septuplet with an eleven with certain groupings.
